Joshua Hegg (He/him)

Joshua is a pianist, composer, and arranger with a profound respect for the craft of music making and a deep love for the art of music education. Beginning with piano lessons at age 8, he went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Chico State University. As a pianist, Joshua is a skilled accompanist and side person in a wide variety of genres. To date he has recorded on over 30 different records and toured all over the United States. Joshua is also a composer, primarily composing for his modern jazz ensemble, Bogg. “Live The Very First Time,” Bogg’s latest album of original music written during the 2020 lockdown, was self released in June 2021.

As an educator, Joshua strives to impart more than just the notes on the page to his students. He ties in theory, history, improvisation, and larger musical components so his students understand how the music they love is created. In addition to teaching at Vesper, Joshua is also a virtual lecturer and music director in the department of Music and Theatre at California State University, Chico. At CSUC, he also worked as music director and orchestrator for TV and stage songwriting duo Samsel & Adams (Central Park, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure).

Joshua also has a strong passion for music entrepreneurship.  In the last few years, he has hosted free community classes for artists to learn the complicated world of financial planning with the hope of empowering those who want to work in the arts.

In addition to music, Joshua loves movies, good coffee, conversation, and spending time with his wife, Megan and their two dogs, Peanut Butter and Gidget.
