Piano Instructor
Stephanie O’Leary is a piano teacher living in Portland with her husband, three kids, and her very sweet and very fluffy dog Tootsie. Once she was tall enough to reach the keys on the family upright, Stephanie has been playing piano, composing, singing, and generally making a joyful racket. Her first music teacher was her big brother who taught her to read music before she had fully mastered phonics. Once she had graduated from his early tutelage Stephanie began piano lessons.
In addition to piano, Stephanie loved singing in choirs throughout her childhood. Her experiences with the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir were especially formative where, under the baton of Robert Geary, Stephanie had the opportunity to make excellent music with some of her best friends.
As a postgraduate Stephanie received a Bachelor’s in Music from Mills College and a Master’s in Musicology from Indiana University’s Jacob School of Music. Music history and theory greatly inform her own playing - she loves to know the story of the music she is playing and the theory behind the sounds.
In her teaching Stephanie brings passion and curiosity to her lessons. She is grateful to guide students on their own musical journeys and have the opportunity to make music every day. When not making a musical racket you can find Stephanie making messes in the kitchen or at the river pretending she’s an otter.
