Piano Instructor
Mitchell (He/Him)
Mitchell is a Portland-born & raised multi-instrumentalist and music educator. In his teaching, Mitchell brings a deep passion and knowledge for a vast array of musical styles, with professional experience in Jazz, Folk, R&B, Rock, Classical, Ambient, & Soundtrack music. Mitchell graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music with a focus in Composition and Production.
Mitchell loves helping students explore what makes music exciting for them.
He began his own musical journey at age 5, starting piano lessons after a preschool teacher remarked on his consistent gravitation toward the bongos during free time. From then on Mitchell had many music teachers. Today, he remains immensely grateful for those teachers; most of all, for the way they shared their knowledge without diminishing his natural joy & curiosity toward playing.
Mitchell seeks to carry on this tradition: fostering a love & passion for music throughout the process of learning to play it! In general, he believes in the philosophy of music as a language and aims to teach toward fluency more than rote memorization.
Outside of music & teaching, Mitchell enjoys playing & watching basketball (go Blazers!), watching pretentious films on Criterion, spending time in nature, biking, hiking, reading, sleeping, eating, & generally spending quality time with loved ones.
